Spill Pallets

Spill pallets are a legal requirement if you are storing either fuel or oil in drums, cans or IBC’s outdoors in the UK. The regulations apply to all types of fuel and oil including; petrol, diesel, fuel oil, lubricating oil, biofuel, vegetable oil and kerosene.

Also referred to as sump pallets and spill trays, they are the most common form of spill containment.

Secondary containment is required on any oil storage exceeding 200L capacity, this means that even if you are only storing 1 drum of product it will be necessary to operate a spill pallet.

The spill pallet should be able to hold either 25% of the combined storage capacity or 110% of the largest container, whichever is greater. Operators should also reference Environment Agency guidelines.
