AdBlue Handling Guidance

Shelf life

Shelf life varies on storage conditions and is defined within ISO 22241, typically you should avoid storing the product for longer than necessary.

AdBlue should be stored in accordance with the schedule below:

Storage Temperature Expected shelf life
< 10°C 3 years
< 25°C 18 months
< 30°C 12 months
< 35°C Less than 6 months
> 35°C Not recommended, check quality before use

 

-11°C AdBlue® Freezes at -11°C but is reusable once thawed without any loss of quality

Caution the AdBlue stored sealed containers and pipework could expand and fracture in extremely low temperatures. 

 

Precautions


Eating, drinking and smoking should be prohibited in areas where this material is handled, stored and processed. Workers should wash hands and face before eating, drinking and smoking. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.

 

PPE

Exposure limits:               No exposure limit value known, personal, workplace atmosphere or biological monitoring may be required to determine the effectiveness of the ventilation or other control measures and/or the necessity to use respiratory protective equipment.

Sprays, splashes and misting from dispensing procedures

Wear suitable eye protection where splashing can occur

Vapour and mists from tank filling and dispensing procedures

Operate in ventilated area, wear suitable respiratory protection where ventilation is inadequate.

First Aid Measures

Eye Contact:
Rinse with plenty of running water. Check for and remove any contact lenses. Get medical attention if irritation occurs.
No known significant effects or critical hazards.

Inhalation:         
Avoid inhalation of vapour, spray or mist. If inhaled, remove to fresh air. Get medical attention if you feel unwell.
Exposure to decomposition products may cause a health hazard. Serious effects may be delayed following exposure.

Skin Contact:     
Wash with soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation develops.
No known significant effects or critical hazards.

Ingestion:
Wash out mouth with water. If material has been swallowed and the exposed person is conscious, give small quantities of water to drink. Get medical attention if adverse health effects persist or are severe.
